Import or Manufacture Furniture Hardware & Fittings from ASEAN

Hinges, slides, brackets, handles and connectors from Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia — cycle testing, finish durability, QC and landed cost for Western buyers.

Furniture hardware is a quiet, high-repeat category: low unit value, high unit count, and a return rate that destroys margin when a finish fails or a slide sticks. ASEAN metal shops handle it well, provided the cycle test and the finish spec are written before the first quote.

TUSKO is a Bangkok-based sourcing and trading partner. We shortlist and audit factories across Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia, run the quality plan, and quote you a single landed price with one accountable contact from RFQ to port.

What buyers import in this category

  • Soft-close hinges, drawer slides and lift systems
  • Handles, knobs, pulls and decorative hardware
  • Brackets, connectors, levellers and cam-lock fittings
  • Flat-pack fixings and hardware bag kitting
  • Castors, glides and table bases

Why ASEAN instead of China in 2026

Three forces are moving Western buyers into ASEAN: tariff exposure on Chinese origin, customer pressure for a second source, and the maturity of the manufacturing base in Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. ASEAN factories are generally smaller, which means your order gets attention, but it also means you must verify capability rather than assume it. A shortlist without an on-site audit is a guess.

Specify these before you ask for a price

A vague RFQ produces a cheap quote and an expensive programme. Fix the following in writing:

  1. Load rating and cycle count (for example 50,000 cycles at 40 kg for a slide)
  2. Base material, plating or powder-coat spec and thickness in microns
  3. Salt-spray hours required — 48, 96 or 240 depending on your market
  4. Colour matching against a physical master sample, not a Pantone code alone
  5. Hardware bag content list, since a missing screw is a full-unit return

Market compliance for first-world buyers

United States — ANSI/BHMA grading is what specifiers ask for; CPSIA applies where hardware reaches children’s furniture; Prop 65 for coatings sold into California.

European Union — EN 15570/15706 cycle standards, REACH on plating chemistry and RoHS for anything electrical.

United Kingdom — UKCA where applicable plus the same EN performance standards used by UK retail buyers.

Australia — AS/NZS performance standards for commercial furniture and mandatory tip-over requirements for the finished furniture your hardware supports.

Compliance evidence should be collected during the pilot build, not requested after the container is loaded. We build the document list into the production plan.

The quality plan we run

  • Independent cycle testing on the first lot at your stated load
  • Salt-spray and cross-hatch adhesion on each plating batch
  • Torque and pull-out testing on threaded inserts and connectors
  • Piece-count verification of hardware bags by weight and by manual audit
  • Carton drop testing for heavy hardware cases

Inspections are carried out by our own people on site. You receive photo and measurement reports before we authorise shipment, and nothing ships on a report you have not seen.

Landed cost, honestly

Hardware programmes typically land 10–20% below China once tariffs and rework are counted, and consolidation is where the bigger win sits: we combine hardware from several Thai and Vietnamese shops into one container, one packing list and one landed price.

Our fee is built into the landed cost you are quoted. There is no separate retainer, and you see one price per unit delivered to your named port or door.

A realistic timeline

Stage Typical duration
Requirement scoping and RFQ pack 3–5 days
Supplier shortlist and quotations 1–2 weeks
On-site factory audit 1 week
Samples and first article approval 2–5 weeks
Pilot run and inspection 2–3 weeks
Mass production and pre-shipment QC 4–8 weeks
Ocean transit to US / EU / UK / AU 3–6 weeks

Frequently asked questions

Is the tooling cost worth it for custom hardware?

For anything above roughly 20,000 pieces a year, usually yes. Below that we push you toward a modified standard part.

Can you consolidate hardware with my furniture order?

Yes — mixed-SKU consolidation across factories is standard for us.

How do you stop finish variation between batches?

Approved physical master samples held at both the factory and our Bangkok office, plus a colour reading on every batch.

What MOQ should I expect?

2,000–5,000 pieces per SKU for standard items, higher for custom die-cast parts.
