Quick answer
Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam run float and container glass furnaces serving beverage, sauce, cosmetic and spirits packaging. Stock moulds start around 20,000-50,000 pieces MOQ at USD 0.09-0.55 per unit; custom moulds cost USD 4,000-18,000 per cavity set with 150,000+ piece MOQs. Lead time is 45-75 days for stock shapes, 90-120 days including new mould development.
Country fit
| Country | Best for | MOQ (stock mould) | FOB unit |

| Indonesia | High-volume beverage and amber bottles | 50,000 pcs | USD 0.09-0.30 |
| Malaysia | Pharma-grade and technical glass | 30,000 pcs | USD 0.18-0.70 |

Specs to lock before quoting
- Capacity and overflow: nominal fill vs brimful volume, with tolerance in ml.
- Glass: flint, amber, green or feuille; wall thickness distribution; annealing schedule.
- Finish: neck finish standard (GPI 400/410, 28mm ROPP, cork bore, twist-off lug 63/66/82) — this drives closure sourcing.
- Weight: lightweighting saves freight but cuts internal pressure resistance; state minimum burst pressure for carbonated fills.
- Decoration: ACL screen print, frosting, embossing, sleeve-ready surface.
Compliance
- Food contact: EU 1935/2004 and FDA 21 CFR; heavy-metal migration (lead, cadmium) test report per lot.
- Pressure and thermal-shock tests for carbonated or hot-fill products.
- EU packaging waste directive reporting and recycled-content declarations.
- Wooden pallet ISPM 15 heat treatment for US, EU, UK and Australian entry.
Quality control plan
- Approve first-article samples against a dimensional drawing, not a photo.
- Furnace-lot checks: wall thickness scan, verticality, capacity, seam quality.
- Pre-shipment AQL 1.0 for critical defects (stones, cracks, birdswings) and 2.5 for cosmetic defects.
- Line-trial 500 bottles on your filling and capping line before releasing the balance.

FAQ
Is glass worth importing given the freight cost?
Only in full containers and where the unit gap is 25% or more. Freight is heavy per unit, so glass rarely works LCL.
Who owns the mould?
Get it written down. Pay for the mould and hold a signed mould ownership and storage clause, including the right to transfer it to another furnace.
How much breakage should I budget?
1-2% for palletised, shrink-wrapped loads. Above 3%, the packing method or pallet quality is the problem, not the glass.
Can I start below 30,000 pieces?
Only by joining an existing stock-shape run. Sharing a furnace run is the standard path for first orders.
