Component-level parts often ride on your listing, not the factory's. Confirm which certifications must be held by the component maker (motors, control boards, capacitors) versus by you as the finished-goods manufacturer.
Technical checks that matter
- Pressure and leak test. Every pressure-bearing assembly: helium mass-spectrometer or equivalent leak test with recorded results, plus a burst test on samples.
- Brazing quality. Qualified brazers, controlled filler alloy, nitrogen purge during brazing, and internal cleanliness limits (residual oil and particulate in mg).
- Fin and tube geometry. Fin pitch, collar height, tube expansion — small deviations cost measurable capacity.
- Coating. For coastal or corrosive duty, epoxy or hydrophilic coatings with salt-spray evidence.
- Motors and electricals. Insulation class, locked-rotor test, hipot test on 100% of electrical assemblies with data logged.
- Refrigerant compatibility. With the shift to A2L refrigerants, verify materials, seals and ignition-source assessments against your target refrigerant.
Cost and tooling
- Coil tooling (fin dies) is expensive: USD 20,000–80,000. Where possible, design around a factory's existing fin die.
- Sheet-metal progressive dies range USD 5,000–40,000; laser-cut and brake-formed prototypes avoid tooling for pilot volumes.
- Copper price moves fast — index copper content separately from conversion cost in your contract.
Logistics notes
Coils are fragile and heavy. Specify crating with internal bracing, fin protection and moisture barriers, and require drop-test evidence for the export pack. Nitrogen-charged and capped assemblies should arrive with positive pressure — make "pressure held on arrival" an inspection point on your receiving checklist.
