USA — FDA FSMA

  1. Facility registration (biennial, free) via FURLS
  2. Prior Notice filed for each shipment
  3. FSVP — importer must maintain a Foreign Supplier Verification Program
  4. Preventive Controls / HACCP audit of the Thai facility
  5. Labeling per 21 CFR 101 (nutrition facts, allergens, English)

Low-acid canned foods (LACF) and acidified foods need extra SID/FCE numbers.

EU + UK

  • EU 2017/625 official controls; UK mirrors post-Brexit
  • BRCGS or IFS certification is de-facto required by supermarkets
  • Health certificate from Thai DLD (animal origin) or DoA (plant)
  • CHED-P entry via TRACES NT

Do I need FDA approval to import Thai food?

The FDA does not 'approve' foods, but the facility must be registered and the importer must maintain an FSVP. LACF/acidified foods need SID/FCE numbers.

Is BRCGS mandatory for Thai food exporters?
