Private Label & Packaging Development in Thailand 2026

Private Label & Packaging Development in Thailand 2026

The middle path between importing stock and full custom manufacturing: putting your brand on a proven Thai product, with packaging, artwork, compliance.

Private Label & Packaging Development in Thailand 2026

Most buyers do not need a bespoke product. They need a proven product with their brand, their pack format and their compliance labelling. Private label sits between buying stock and full custom manufacturing: no tooling bill, far shorter lead time, and real differentiation on shelf.

Categories where Thailand is strong

Personal care and cosmetics, supplements, food and beverage, household chemicals, rubber and latex goods, pet products, and home and kitchen. Thai OEMs in these categories typically hold GMP, HACCP or ISO certification already, which shortens your compliance path considerably.

The packaging workstream

Packaging is usually the critical path, not the product.

  1. Choose the pack format from the OEM's existing filling and sealing capability. A format outside their line means new change parts and cost.
  2. Confirm the dieline from the printer, not from a template. Every carton and label has its own dieline and bleed.
  3. Artwork to the dieline with all mandatory destination-market content: net weight, ingredients or materials, country of origin, importer details, warnings, barcode, and recycling marks where required.
  4. Colour proof and print plates. Plates are a one-off cost per artwork revision — freeze artwork before plates are cut.
  5. Print and delivery to the filler — allow 3–5 weeks and treat it as a hard gate on the production date.

Labelling compliance by market

Marking rules are where private label programmes fail inspection. Country of origin marking is mandatory and specific for the USA; the EU requires a responsible person and language versions; Japan and Korea require local-language content; Gulf markets require Arabic. Get the label reviewed by someone who imports into that market before you print 20,000 of them.

Cost realities

Expect the branded pack to add 8–25% over the unbranded product cost, depending on carton quality and print complexity. Print plates, dielines and colour proofs are amortised over the first run, so a small first order carries a disproportionate pack cost. Discuss volume tiers before you commit — see the cost breakdown and the MOQ guide.

Protecting the brand

Register your trademark in Thailand before production, keep artwork files and dielines in your own account, and state in the purchase order that the OEM may not sell your pack format or artwork to anyone else. See contract manufacturing: how it works.

FAQ

What is the minimum order for private label in Thailand?

Cosmetics and supplements typically start at 3,000–10,000 units per SKU, food and beverage at 1,000–5,000, and household or hardware items lower. Print minimums on cartons often set the real floor.

Can I change the formula of an existing OEM product?

Usually within limits — fragrance, colour and concentration adjustments are common. Structural formula changes trigger new stability testing and reset the timeline.

Who owns the artwork and the dieline?

You should. State it in writing in the purchase order and keep the source files, otherwise the printer or OEM controls your ability to move.

How long does packaging print take in Thailand?

Allow 3–5 weeks from frozen artwork to delivered cartons, longer for offset printing with special finishes such as foil, emboss or spot UV.
